Hosted at PwC Embankment Place, the engagement brought together senior Indonesian policymakers, UK Government representatives and leading UK rail institutions to accelerate collaboration on urban and inter-urban rail development. The visit formed part of a joint\u00a0Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office\u00a0(FCDO)\u00a0and\u00a0Department of Business and Trade\u00a0mission,\u00a0coordinated by the British Embassy\u00a0Jakarta. It\u00a0built on UK support\u00a0for\u00a0the\u00a0design of an integrated transport authority in East Java Province,\u00a0as well as\u00a0the\u00a0Surabaya Urban Railway Feasibility Study under GCIEP, designed to deepen strategic engagement on sustainable rail development.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-default-font-family\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The\u00a0engagements\u00a0focused on practical knowledge exchange and senior-level dialogue to support the enabling environment for climate-resilient and inclusive infrastructure services. Capacity-building and knowledge-sharing sessions led by GCIEP Delivery Partners, Transport for London (TfL) and Crossrail International (CI) drew on globally recognised UK experience.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-default-font-family\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">TfL shared lessons on integrated transport authorities, governance arrangements, subsidies and working relationships between city and national government.\u00a0CI provided insights on project development planning, governance structures,\u00a0funding\u00a0and financing, presenting London\u2019s Elizabeth line as a case study. These sessions responded directly to questions from the Indonesian delegation and supported more informed decision-making on future rail investments.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-default-font-family\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The\u00a0mission\u00a0raised the profile of GCIEP among\u00a0key Indonesian stakeholders while\u00a0facilitating\u00a0direct conversations between senior\u00a0UK\u00a0representatives and Indonesian government leaders, including officials from\u00a0Bappenas, the Ministry of Transportation, East Java\u00a0Province\u00a0and Surabaya City. By\u00a0convening\u00a0all critical actors in one forum, the mission strengthened alignment and shared understanding of priorities across policy,\u00a0planning\u00a0and delivery. It also\u00a0demonstrated\u00a0UK leadership in rail policy, institutional\u00a0capability\u00a0and major project delivery, reinforcing the UK offer\u00a0through GCIEP.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-default-font-family\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">CI and TfL also hosted the mission delegates on a tour of the Elizabeth line and key stations, including Stratford, Canary Wharf and Tottenham Court Road, showcasing integration with a wide range of public transport modes and demonstrating how transit-oriented development contributed to the success of the railway.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-default-font-family\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Overall, GCIEP-supported institutions strengthened technical capability and senior relationships, improving readiness for coordinated decision-making on Indonesia\u2019s rail investment priorities.
